The lock function worked fine, about a month. My cat is stuck and now doesn't work with either the switch or the collar. It makes noise but is kind of muffled. Haven't tried taking it apart yet but I don't feel like I need to do a repair after 6 weeks max of use.

Door doesn't register collar. We installed the door before testing and missed the return window. I wouldn't buy this again. I bought the door thinking it would be an upgrade from our cheap dog door, but this one is no different. Every day someone has to turn the handle to let my dog out and turn the handle to close the door.

. The product itself has worked flawlessly so far. However, upon purchase, you will be shown the SURE Petcare RFID collar tags that can be purchased with it. They are not compatible and if you have a second pet you will need to order a second keychain from the IDEALPETPRODUCTS.COM website. Not a big deal, just wish I understood this at the time of purchase and could now return the wrong tags. This is not a review of the product I purchased, just marketing.

The electronic part of this product failed in less than a week. We came home to a dog that was trapped in the house all day and had an accident in the house that we had to clean. Our dog was EXTREMELY stressed as he never had accidents in the house. I can't find a way to contact the manufacturer directly. Upgrade to 1 star: The locking mechanism is completely stopped. The dog didn't break anything - it just stopped locking. I sent the device back, luckily it had the decency to fail within the return period. Buy something else! Initial 2 Star Rating: Bought this unit mainly because it has a wall outlet. Update: I've only had it for about a month and it's stopped working. I hear the locking mechanism click when I turn it on, but it stays in the unlocked position. I can lock and unlock it by hand but now it's just a regular dog door and only the snow keeps the cats from escaping through it. The motor just doesn't recognize the RFID tag and I have to either cycle it off and on again or switch it to unlocked and back to active to reset it. As a result, the dog was trapped on one side or the other…
