Take away the Mac Mini.

Having owned an Intel i5 NUC since 2015, I was looking for an i7 model to attach to the back of a monitor in my office. At first, I only considered small form factor (SFF) computers with discrete graphics cards: Intel Hades and Diablo Canyon NUC, PCs from Shuttle, Zotac, etc. Ultimately, the question was whether it was worth the extra $1,000 discretely to have graphics card on a PC with a VESA mount on the monitor. The cost of a small form factor PC with a discrete GPU is high. You'll spendโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Compatibility

Small but not silent

The problem with i7-nucs is that they are small but not silent. This generation will not fix it. For all normal tasks like watching YouTube, working in the office or really light gaming, it's reasonably quiet and stays around 40 degrees. with annoying fan noise. The single best solution I've found to deal with the noise is to disable TurboBoost in the BIOS. For example, I have a Python script that does some data analysis. Without turbo, it ran quietly for around 19 minutes at a pack temperature

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Will do

Almost Perfect - Computers & Accessories

This NUC is a great little machine, I have an M.2 drive (Crucial 500GB M/N CT500MX500SSD4), 16GB RAM (Crucial MM/N CT2K8G4SFD824A) and a Operating system (Win 10 on a flash drive) ). If you already have a monitor, HDMI port, and keyboard + mouse, you're all set. Assembling is relatively easy and quick - all you need is a Phillips screwdriver. There's even a VESA mount included so you can mount the NUC on the back of a monitor. However, I wonder why Intel does not include important drivers forโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quick Replace
Cons
  • Empty

Great hardware, terrible documentation

This review is for the BOXNUC8i5BEH1, a 'tall' i5 'kit' that does not include RAM or hard drive. (Note that i3, i5, and i7 reviews are uselessly merged here if you don't know how to filter reviews.) First and foremost: It's great hardware. I have had several Mini PCs including the latest generation Atom based Gigabyte and Asus. I've built dozens of PCs over the years. I use this NUC as a media center (HTPC) and so far it's *completely* quiet and doesn't emit any noticeable heat. Considering myโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Complete kit
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

Amazing little machine

Samsung 970 Evo NVMe (250GB), 2 x 4GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro added. Use with LG 27" 4K Display (with HDMI) It's amazing how fast and quiet this little thing is. It's a real desktop computer. Easy to put together and works without any problems. Very fast and responsive. I use it for Visual Studio and Azure programming Office documents, internet and media consumption, including 4K video Handles everything with ease Quiet at boot and sometimes starts to hum a little under load (balanced setting inโ€ฆ

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • I will add later
