Speed depends on your motherboard

After reading this card's specs and speaking to SYBA Tech Support, here's what I understand.1. Although the SATA ports on the card support SATA III (6 Gb/s or 750 MB/s, where Gb = gigabit and MB = megabyte and 1 Gb = 125 MB), the maximum speed of this card is limited to 1 PCIe slot Lane limited, it depends on the PCI Express version on your motherboard.2. PCI Express 2.0 supports a maximum speed of 4 Gb/s (=500 MB/s) per lane. Thus, the maximum speed of this card is 500 MB/s. It is faster than…

Overheating but manageable

So I use them in a budget server I've built and I use them quite heavily. So overheating, which I don't see as an inherent design flaw, just the potential to use it for more than what's probably intended. I had 3 cards with 10 disks with software RAID 10 on an Ubuntu server with mdadm. Things became more and more unstable and the server stalled. I switched to Windows thinking there might have been a problem with Linux and the card drivers, but when the symptoms were the same I realized I had a…

+++ UPDATE +++ I'll save you some time

Looking at this card, you probably want a card that will allow your SATA 3 hard drives to run on an older SATA 2 The good ones News is that this card will do it (at least for me on Win7 64bit). The bad news is that there are many PCI-E interface options and this card is based on the Marvel 88SE9215 which is an X1 only device. This means you only get one channel for your data (X1) and your ability to achieve SATA 3 speeds is severely limited. For example, my Samsung 850 EVO SATA 3 SSD should be…

Works well but needs new wiring

Acceptable quality construction and has worked well so far. I like the 2x2 ports facing each other, they make the connection a bit easier. And it uses a PCIe 1x port; It's a fairly small form factor and should fit into small PCIe machines. Another plus is that (presumably) all ports can work with degradation at the same time (I haven't checked). Easy installation on W10 and Linux - automatically detected by both, no configuration or extra steps required. If you have a pre-W10 system, there is a

Works fine while it works

I've had two of these in the last 3 years or so. Almost 2 years later, the first one started throwing errors and then completely failed with all drives connected until the computer shut down for a few minutes. After about 1 year, the second one drops out, the computer has to be switched off completely for a few minutes so that I can use the card for up to 4 hours. I don't think this is an issue with I/O Crest. I'm pretty sure I had a different issue with a similar Marvell chipset card from…
