Great idea if it works

Maybe I have a bad block but no matter what I did I couldn't get this thing to get an IP address. I've tried four different routers with no luck. Unfortunately there is absolutely no way to contact this unless it is online. So if it doesn't come out of the box, you'll never get it to work.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

I was tempted to purchase this product as it was reasonably priced and seemed to meet my needs. After I received this product, it didn't work - the software couldn't see the device on the network. I resolved the issue with IOGEAR tech support and they told me the device was defective and that I should return it. Thinking this might happen one day, I ordered a replacement block. Guess what? this one didn't work either. Exactly the same problem - the block did not receive an IP and therefore wasโ€ฆ

More wireless work

Must have separate instructions. If the print server is used on a wireless network, it must be connected to a wireless router so that the print server can select an IP address from the same range as wireless devices attempting to print to the server. The print server must be on the same subnet as your computers (wireless or wired). Otherwise, computers cannot find the print server.

Bad luck with the print server

I could never get this print server to work. The utility software could not find the print server on my network. I spoke to IOGEAR technical support on the phone. They tried to get it working but were unsuccessful. They told me to send it back, which I did. The interface was easy to install and should have been easy to use, but there's no way to set up a print server without a utility, and if the utility doesn't find the print server, there's nothing you can do.

Multifunction buggy

I bought two of these, one for the CoStar label printer and one for the Canon MP780 multifunction printer. The first IoGear print server was regularly detected on my local network and after spending a lot of time trying to determine if I was doing something wrong I connected a second server which was detected immediately and reliably. So, lesson number one, as others have written, is that these aggregates can be faulty. I then found that I could use it as a print server fairly reliably withโ€ฆ

IOGEAR USB Print Server

. My job is a computer scientist and after 3 tech support calls and 2 device swaps I couldn't get this device to give out an IP address. IOGEAR's technical support is useless at best and their products seem to hit or miss. Unless you want a $20 paper with a USB and ethernet port, I wouldn't bother!

Don't waste your time

Received this product today and it's already boxed for return to Revain. It didn't get an IP address, and after trying to talk to tech support for several hours, I gave up. Combine this with other bad reviews, don't waste your time and money. This product promises too much and just doesn't deliver. There could be something better out there, but this feature-packed print server sucks. Don't say you weren't warned! I ignored other bad reviews to try anyway, my mistake! Also as an update, I forgot
