I bought this item to replace another brand's charging cable that is starting to wear out in the cable/device connector area after two years (it has a thinner and more flexible braided cable). This cable is comparatively thicker, heavier and inflexible. It seems very durable and I don't expect it to fail like my old cable. This 3.3ft cable is perfect for home charging. For travel, I may opt for a longer, lighter, and less durable cable.

I bought this item because of another review. The person had the same problems with a WD external hard drive as me. Thought the drive was bad turns out I replaced the cable and so far so good. The hard drive is running. Thanks to Jason Pollitt for his review which helped me to purchase this cable. I'll update my review in a few weeks to let you know if it works. I bought this along with other USB cables to find the best option for my external hard drives. I have several external hard drives. The cables I already have have a big impact on speed. With the same hard drive but with different cables, I can get speeds from 40MB/s to 175MB/s. I have faster 250MB/s hard drives but haven't tested them.
