They are generally strong enough, but the screw holes are countersunk so the molding (the part that attaches to the wall) will break if you overtighten the screws. I broke a train with my hands. This is a handrail and needs to be firmly fixed to the wall, so it had to be designed without countersinking to accommodate tightening of the fixing screws.
