A filter I received was exactly the same as the original filter that came with my Kenmore Elite. There was no leakage or dirt from the water as stated by some other reviews, they probably didn't read the instructions or knew that some gray or blackness is normal due to the carbon element in the filter which is cleaned after the water has gone through the system . .

Made the mistake of ONCE using another, cheaper brand. Since then I've ONLY used it in our Samsung fridge. The water has a clean, pleasant taste and no floating plastic parts (unlike other brands). They say you get what you pay for and this is a perfect example. God knows what the hell was wrong with the other filter. Except for the white plastic parts that he installed himself.

These are great filters. But don't pre-order. They were ordered in July and delivered for replacement in December. A 3 year old Kenmore/LG refrigerator died while we were out of town until mid-August. The device cannot be repaired for more than one month (parts warranty), so the filters must be replaced and the filters cannot be used or returned. So - if you need a filter "now" - get it. If you're about to install a new filter, don't buy it until it's time to install a new one.

This is NOT a genuine Kenmore product and does NOT replace the 46 9490 filter. It is too long and the top tabs are too wide. I just got off the phone with Kenmore and am being sued for these cheap fake filters. According to Kenmore, LG is the only manufacturer of genuine replacement filters for Kenmore products. The one on the right is the real filter taken out of the fridge and the one on the left is a fake. (I put the date there to see how long the filter would last)
