This block set exceeded my expectations. The knives are sharp and have a great weight to them. The block is also aesthetically pleasing adding a nice touch to my home and kitchen. As my tests showed, the knives easily cut through even the toughest of foods... The only downside to this set is the price point, but the quality justifies the cost. I bought it as a gift for my wife. We love this set so much we also bought a 7 inch santoku knife! big hands). The fact that there are extra (two) slots in the block is a very nice bonus that I was hoping to find. The only very minor complaint is that the beautiful color of the block is only on the surface, so no chips, scuffs etc puts a very bright light on the underlying wood and the contrast between the natural color of the wood and the stain makes it very noticeable.
