Look elsewhere, friend

Attention emptor. I bought a Linksys router (EA1500) 2-3 years ago and am very happy with it. It looked like a similar product but at a lower price. Some reviews said the range was weak, but I don't live in a palace so that was acceptable to me. But it turned out to be a disappointing piece #@$&. It has been defective since day one (which I think is better than having it for months before it breaks). After setting it up, I was never able to access the router settings again (meaning I couldn't…

Pros
  • 4 gigabit ports for connecting wired devices
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Upgrade to dual band, guest can use their guest wifi

Okay I got my router with first class shipping Today 25 September 2015 Brand new packaging wasn't everything but I still appreciate it was just about time to upgrade my old router (linksy 120n). WiFi just went down and I still really want to guess that WiFi was perfect for me and not that an expensive CD is just documentation. Compact Disc. You can connect via Wi-Fi, but I ended up connecting from the modem to the router and to the lab with a cable. It took me a minute to interact with the…

Very unreliable router

As most buyers of this router have discovered, this router is extremely unreliable. The router is easy to set up and also has a handy feature to access the router settings through the Linksys website. . It also allows you to configure the router when you are not connected to it. While this router works, it's pretty good apart from a small range for the 5GHz band. Even in a 2-room apartment, the 5GHz range is halved when accessing from the 2nd room and drops to 1 bar when leaving the apartment…

Pros
  • Supports simultaneous dual band
Cons
  • Secret number

However, the 4 and 5 GHz bands were fine.

Pros: For a few hours if it's up it will work pretty well. However, the speeds in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands were just great. Cons: The router cannot sustain the advertised speeds for any significant period of time. None of the bands remain stable across multiple devices (HTC One, Logitech Revue, Toshiba laptops, etc.), all devices using WiFi n. Resetting the router fixes this for a very short period of time, then it reverts to extremely erratic operation (multiple shutdowns, varying speeds…

Did you send me the best model? Relax!

Before I continue I ordered a Linksys AC900 and they sent me a Linksys AC1200. My friend ordered the same (AC900) and also received AC1200. So I'm not sure what happened, but I'm definitely happy about it! The Linksys AC1200 is a great router for my apartment. I have a one story apartment/apartment and this router connects multiple devices with no speed or connectivity issues (I have an Xfinity with 50Mbps download speed). The Linksys app is great for managing passwords, devices, and some…

  • Weak Set

UPDATE (08/01/2016): Please read the full overview of my thoughts at the moment as well as a few details on disconnects (from my side, at least). My assessment will not apply to everyone, and my personal experience with this router so far is likely to be slightly different than yours. I rate it 5 out of 5 because it meets all the requirements for my own use case, but I have NOT tested all of the features as they fall outside of those requirements. I will update this review again if the…

No way to secure the guest network

Overall this router seems pretty good but I don't know for sure - I opened it 15 years ago minutes and now I'm going to box it up to send it back. The problem is in the guest network. Instead of a simple secure WPA2 password, it uses a fully open and insecure network for its guest network. Instead, you have to open a web browser (on an insecure site) and enter a password, which is incredibly annoying in hotels. It's too confusing for the average guest. More importantly, it's incredibly unsafe…

Pros
  • Certified backwards compatible with a/b/g/n
Cons
  • Is there anything I can add
