With feet high at the bottom of the basket, you have to add (and discard) nearly an inch of oil to the pan before it makes contact with the food. You'll need to use your legs to raise the basket off the bottom of the pot a little to avoid over-browning, but this basket is wasteful.

Works great with our Lodge Dutch Oven. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the handle is only held in place by the external pressure of the handlebars. It came loose a few times when the basket was handled too roughly, e.g. B. if it was tipped over too quickly to empty the contents. The basket will fall, causing you to lose food and splash it on you, which is annoying. So be careful when using it.

Measure twice, buy once. If I had bought the next size up (which I almost did) it wouldn't fit. I bought it to fit a 12x5" 9 liter roaster. The pan is ideal for deep frying as it is wider than it is high so it holds a very large portion at a time and is easy to look in and reach in and out of The basket is easy to store in the pot (handle down) when not in use. Newly received, cleaned, dried, cleaned before use. It goes perfectly with the 7 liter Lodge Pro-Logic Dutch Oven. It even made it easier to place paper towels on top of the lid during storage. Now before first use I had to stretch the rest loop a bit to make it fit after frying and draining oil. I wouldn't trust it to stay there when removing fried food with tongs. I FOUND THE BASKET VERY WELL MADE. I'M USING THE LODGE CAST IRON PAN THIS CHRISTMAS EVE AND BRITTE A LOT. THE BASKET IS PRECISELY INSERTED INTO THE POT. YOU CAN LOAD ANYTHING YOU HAVE WITHOUT CASES. THE BASKET HAS A HOOK THAT ATTACHES TO THE SIDE OF THE POT THAT ALLOWS YOU TO DRAIN THE OIL FROM THE PRODUCT BEFORE REMOVING IT FROM THE BASKET. IT TAKES A LITTLE FIRST STEPS. [March 2020 update] The first item I received was rusty after the first wash. Right where the wires cross, as is often the case with similar products. Eventually Lodge sent me a replacement. I've never cooked with it, just washed it out of the box and air dried it. Rust is wherever the wires cross. I would not recommend purchasing this item.
