LSI MegaRAID 9260-8i 8-Port SAS RAID Controller Review

It works great but lsi has terrible customer service. In addition, this card is not subject to any guarantee. If the hard drive fails, the whole house will be notified. Turning off an alarm is easy, but you can't turn it off. I wish I could turn it off as the Megaraids software emails me anyway and when running with 8 disks one disk failure is not critical. So if it yells at you every time you boot up, things get a little worse.

It should be sold as new. This board is too hot for a server and melted 2 sets of drive cables when they were near the chip's cooling fins. Bios update needed! It ran about 15C cooler after shutting down, but still held 72C when idling. Too hot for my needs

Use this with six 4TB SATA drives in RAID 6. Try it first, using the onboard WebBIOS I was able to set everything up in just minutes. It also helps that I don't have to worry about other devices being affected since they weren't connected to the same controller. I bought the 9260-8i on the 16th of January. The item was listed as "New". I waited for the rest of my server to arrive to test the card, resulting in not having a 30 day return window. I turned on the server expecting the map to work, but I was very disappointed. Upon closer inspection, the card clearly shows dirt stains and what appears to be water stains and possible damage. I'm using this for a home lab in a medium ATX tower. No problems with motherboard detection. I use it in a PCI Express X16 slot. I use mini SAS to SATA cables for cables and they work great. The web bios is easy to use. Ubuntu had no problem recognizing arrays. This controller works HOT! You have to be prepared for this before you buy. I solved the problem in my system by zipping an old AMD cooler to the heatsink. I also replaced the thermal paste that was on it, it was all peeling off. This…
