I am ashamed of Lufkin

Generations of carpenters on both sides of this family have used Lufkin for the last hundred years. This name stands for reliable quality. No longer. Maybe a $25 model would have been acceptable, but I bought it for teens and figured the $15 would be good enough since it's a Lufkin. It is not. The wood is rough and unfinished in places and the whole block does not fit together well. It's good at measuring and the markings are clear, but it's a shame to use. To return.

Big. Metal sliding pads, wooden strips

this line will do. two calls: 1) As previously mentioned, after 5 uses the metal sled no longer offers resistance and must be held to get an accurate reading. this is annoying, especially when you consider that there are dozens of different ways the manufacturer can ensure that this doesn't happen. 2) The wood will bend a little when the ruler is lengthened for a difference. it's not overwhelmingly bad, but why.? Nevertheless, the ruler is still better than a tape measure for measuring internal

A good wooden ruler is a necessary thing for a carpentry shop

But it is not. The build quality just isn't there. While it's helpful, it just doesn't cut it. Some of the hinges are too tight while others feel sloppy. The last pivot section on one side does not go to a neutral storage position, so the last section sticks out a bit. This causes it to get stuck when kept in a pocket or similar storage. The retractable ruler is too narrow to use. Still hoping it will weaken with age - I'm still waiting. It's useful - just not the tree ruler my grandfather had…

Essential for any plumber or locksmith.

It's practically part of the Plumbers Union "uniform" so I had a lot of these. I bought a couple of these from Amazon and both were different in quality to the ones I bought in the store. I don't know if they sent an inferior quality to Amazon or it was just dumb luck, but the hinges were very stiff and "gritty" as they normally slide in the open position and close smoothly. I've been using this model for 20 years so give it a try again especially since Amazon is so good at handling returns. I…

Lufkin X46SLN Wooden Ruler 6ft Brass Extra Long Black Seems to Fit

I was getting nostalgic for the wooden folding rules I grew up with so I took a chance and ordered this one. This is very similar to what I remembered. This is the 72 inch rule. The markings are mostly black with the smallest intervals in semiquavers. There are red markings on 16", 32", 48" and 64". The marking is applied with paint, not hammered into the wood. The markings appear to be accurately drawn compared to some stainless steel rulers. The markings are legible on both sides, starting at
