Not practical for the home stylist

I'm sure they're great if you know what they're doing. I've been doing my hair for a year and thought maybe pulling blondes up or down could help me. I can see where they would be really useful if used on someone else. But it's hard enough for me to look in the mirror, think backwards, etc., and it's one of those tools that's very useful. But I don't know how to use it. No instructions.
