Game-changer for Workholding!

This product was exactly what I was looking for! When I tried it, the collet opening diameter was perfect for securely holding my workpiece in place. It's been a game-changer for my workholding needs. The quality is outstanding and it's easy to use. However, it is a bit pricey compared to other workholding options.

Pros
  • Excellent quality, secure grip, game-changer for workholding needs.
Cons
  • A bit pricey compared to other options.

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING THIS collet!

For light use only. I made a regular cut down the side of a 1" piece of 1018 steel and my 1" 4 tooth end mill came out of the collet. The depth of cut was only 0.010 inch! I screwed it in very tight, but the collet only grips about an inch of the end mill. It did a really good job cleaning .010" topcuts, but the collet flexes way too much when you push a decent load on it.

Pros
  • R8 collets are manufactured with a hardened threaded bushing on the back for longer tool life.
Cons
  • Something else

Light cuts for machining

I agree with the previous two reviewers who warn that the 1" R8 collet is only for light cuts. I would add that the Lyndex brand collet is far superior to other unnamed 1 inch collets that are cheaper. An inherent problem is that large diameter R8 collets do not have enough clearance. Once the ID is greater than about 7/8 inch, the end mill will no longer fit within the ID of the collet body and some sort of three finger extension must be made that allows the fingers to hold a length of about…

Pros
  • 1" hole size
Cons
  • Very expensive
