They have a mesh lining. They're a little baggy at the waist, but the drawstring helps fix that. They seem to chafe my little boy's thighs every time he wears them, so I'm hoping it's just because they're a bit big. It's probably my fault. I didn't read carefully enough. Good quality shorts, the fabric is soft, they fit well, the mesh insert is tight, tight weaving, the elastic and lace are excellent. Patterns are fun and stylish. The problem is that I was looking for shorts that weren't that long. But obviously the shorter style is only for toddlers. Large boy sizes are long.
