It works fine in the oven and is very accurate

Maverick uses probes which cannot be used at high heat. Works perfectly in the oven and is very accurate. However, when grilling, the probe cable is exposed to higher heat and fails. Mine broke on the first grill. He just registered a high temperature. I contacted the company and they sent me another probe. I haven't used it in a grill and it works great. But since I grill often, I'm looking for a device with a probe that can withstand high temperatures. There are some who claim 700+f. Justโ€ฆ

Great thermometer

Was skeptical because of negative reviews. The thing works. pointless. Yes, if you wet the cable the readings will be accurate. Just dry the cable with a lint-free cloth, power cycle and it will work just fine. I've used it on smoked chicken, steaks, burgers, tilapia, etc. Works great! I have some kind of animal meter as a backup to confirm temperatures. But you can't lose with this Maverick. I love the color values: blue means you're 20 degrees colder or more, red when you're within 10 degrees

Easy to use unit that holds up well

I've had one of these units for about 10 years and love it - I'm not the best cook but I like what I can fry in it and see exactly where I find myself in the cooking process without opening the oven door and inserting a thermometer rod. This device has a magnet on the back and a long enough sensor cable so I'm not limited on where to put the pan in the oven (some of them are too short and I have to keep the thermometer block that close to the oven door). or put the pan inside closer to theโ€ฆ

Strange products in thermometers and timers

When I started writing this review, a window appeared with 4 stars already marked and favorable text already inserted. Is this something new? Anyway the product: something strange next door. They sent me a completely different device (okay, yes, it has a probe). On the Maverick website it's ET-8, but apparently a lot of things are called "et-8" (maybe I should call home?). I also found an online user manual, or maybe one of them. Temperature limits vary by publication. The model I received hasโ€ฆ

The best thermometer I've ever had!

This is the second one I've bought. That works great! The only reason I had to buy another was because the wire on my first one was damaged and I couldn't find a working replacement. I'm actually still using the first one, with the sensor from the new one. The old block is still chugging along. In fact, I've had it for about 10 years now and still haven't had to change the battery. We use this thing at least once a week if not more often. Assembly is a bit cheap. but it has been dropped manyโ€ฆ

Lasted 2 years then had to retire

I bought this thermometer 2 years ago and ended up having to replace it. When I first bought it the temperature readings were accurate and over time the calibration started to fluctuate. I learned to compensate for this, but eventually the connector you plug the probe into started to malfunction and no longer make a good connection. There is one thing about the functionality of the device that I have to warn people about. It has an alarm that can be set to any desired temperature. That's notโ€ฆ

  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Unsafe

Too bad to see that the 2006 negative review is one of the most helpful for Maverick. But the way Revain sorts reviews makes sense: once a review gains momentum, it's almost impossible to publish. This "budget" thermometer is so reliable and so easy to use that my roasts/casseroles are always perfect. I especially like it when I'm making something that will spoil if overcooked, such as: B. pork tenderloin or steak. It also works well on thinner cuts if the probe is inserted from the edge of the
