I bought this to practice before I go to paramedic school and it will be a godsend to already have some practice when it comes time to do it on someone. The skin looks moderately realistic, although it appears too wavy (like an old man's skin) and too hard (like a tense muscle) at the same time. Overall, though, I highly recommend any medical/nursing student to acquire this.

I like the large surface area and the idea of being able to "fill" the "veins" for blood drawing and infusion practice, but the material is TOO soft that "Veins" are too thick to be punctured and difficult to stabilize. Inserting the needles is relatively easy and pulling them out is a bit difficult as the needle sticks to the silicone/gel. So be careful if you have liquid in your syringe. I want to love this exercise mat but I just can't. It cost too much money to try and use multiple times…

I work in education and needed something at a reasonable price to help me train for IV starts. It was an excellent choice. This allows you to practice IV administration and see if you have entered a vein by flushing. It doesn't have a reservoir that flashes, so getting a "blood backflow" isn't an option, but it does allow you to flush with a per-vein drain that allows the flush to come out to show that you had the correct positioning there.
