🪚 Merit 8834111051 Sand-O-Flex 350-RP Abrasive Wheel, Aluminum Oxide, 6-1/2" x 1", Grit 80 (Pack of 1) Review

I bought one of these blocks over 20 years ago. Eventually problems started so I bought a new one. This is a handy way to quickly sand uneven surfaces. I make blades (I've made over 600 since 1985) and rely on the Sand-O-Flex sanding disc to greatly reduce the time it takes to do this. This is a wonderful tool.

Doesn't seem as strong as my (very old, 1970's say) metal version of the same wheel, but it seems to work well. If you have uneven surfaces, sand them down. Let's say you're renovating an old crib with lots of intricately twisted spindles, this thing will save your life. Or at least a huge time saver! Nothing I could find in 60 years of woodworking. Let's see if the plastic one lasts another 50 years!

Very good quality. Thick, durable plastic case that will last. Once you understand that you need to roll out the sandpaper inserts prior to installation, changing to a different grit is fairly easy and quick. My only complaint is that if you want to mount it to a motor you need a motor that is reversible in rotation, which is more expensive than a fixed rotation motor. I assume priority should be used in the drill press?

I bought one of these based on a YouTube user review. I use mine to sand the inside edge of wooden bowls on a lathe. It was very difficult to get smooth cross grain cuts in some of the woods I use. This thing grinds it smooth with little difficulty. You have to be careful not to sand too much in one area or you'll leave a hole. I haven't changed the paper yet and expect the process to be frustrating just because of the poorly written instructions for use. I have 80 grit and I still have 120…
