Elite Series Microplane Grater/Zester (Black) Review

I use a lot of citrus peels when I cook and I always hate them. Either the peel won't peel, or it's too hard and difficult to cut, or it doesn't work well at all. It's great, easy to use and easy to clean!

This is a fantastic grater for zest and nutmeg. I can grate half a nutmeg in about a minute. It's thin and fluffy and the plastic part holds everything so I don't mess up my plate. It also has measurement markings which come in handy when I need enough for a recipe. It cleans well in the dishwasher and seems to stay sharp.

I use a micro slicer to grate ginger every day. For years I've been using an old school microplane (all metal with sharp edges). Since the old version doesn't have a frame or handle, I was always afraid of bending it by pressing too hard. Also, it's quite uncomfortable to hold in your hands. On the other hand, this cester is very comfortable, durable and stable. I am satisfied with the build quality and the design/look.

That WAS my second. The Microplanes themselves make some of the best products on the market and I use them every day in a professional kitchen. This is an amazing and affordable product. However, the quality of the packaging that Revain provides to ship and "protect" the products is sub-par at best. This is the second item I have had to return this week as it was damaged on arrival.

I am disappointed that it is already broken. The black plastic has cracked exposing a sharp edge, now making it dangerous to use. But maybe that's life for something like this? I'm not sure if this is my first. In a year and a half they were probably used 5-10 times. So I really don't think it should be broken yet. Now everything is made so cheap and disposable. Sad (since we fill landfills with garbage).
