Surprisingly useful

The ring expander itself wasn't really needed, but the compressor was absolutely necessary. I'm definitely glad I packed them together

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Uncertain

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My son used them. Not me.

You got the job done. This is probably not the best choice for a professional engine builder. But do-it-yourself projects here and there. Pretty good for a reasonable price.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Problems

Ring expander pliers OK, ring compressor no

Ring compressor ratchet fell apart when compressing the rings. I was restoring a small engine so I used a hose clamp as usual. The pliers were ok.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some small things

Wouldn't buy again. Cheap but cheaply made.

Inexpensive. Wouldn't buy again. One of the rivets on my 8th piston broke. Luckily I managed to stick it in the block but after that this product became junk.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Wrinkled packaging

Good for the price, doesn't seem well made

Ring compressor was in working condition. Job done but looks like it was made cheaply and will likely fail on the rivets that attach the clamp mechanism. But the right price.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

Working type for ring

Thing is inconvenient to use. If you use it for 1 or 2 jobs that's fine, buy a good one if you use it a lot. I ended up damaging the oil scraper ring on 2 pistons during installation. So have an extra set of rings ready when assembly performance is right.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Communication with seller

Expander is great in rings

Ring expanders are great but compressor is terrible. The ratchet wheel is too rough and doesn't allow for much compression, and the rivets holding everything together came loose after the first use. I ended up using a 40 year old Craftsman compressor to get the job done.

  • Certified
