Description of ๐Ÿ’ฐ Moonjar Moneybox: Classic Spend and Share

Multiple award-winning 3 in 1 Moneybox: Moonjar has a trio of diamond shaped, tin canisters that have either SAVE, SPEND, or SHARE printed on the side. Perfect for Small Hands: The Moonjar canisters are diamond shaped and unbreakable to enable small hands to safely and easily grab and maneuver them. Color-Coded Acrylic Lids: Each canister lid is color-coded to make it easier to identify the SAVE, SPEND OR SHARE containers. Lids have a money slot measuring 1.5" long x 5/16" wide so they can easily deposit their allowance, both coins and folded bills, in the money container of their choice. Easy to Separate and Play With: An acrylic band, that is easy to remove, holds the 3 canisters together when not in use. Once separated, each individual canister can be dumped out so children can count or move funds between the tins or safely carry specific canisters to the bank or elsewhere. Bring The Concepts Of Responsible Money Management To Life: An engaging learning tool that grows with your child and encourages fiscal responsibility by simplifying financial concepts. Younger children aged 3+ enjoy adding coins and bills to each canister and watching them fill up. Older kids, up to age 11, learn basic math, begin to set and achieve financial goals and experience the joy of saving or sharing to help those in need.

such a cool product

My daughter (age 5) wanted this first thing when her grandpa gave her $100 for Christmas. She likes that she has access to money when she wants to spend it, but doesn't feel like it burns a hole in her pocket like I thought. She knows this is the time when she needs/wants something special, and she feels good about putting something aside to share with others (we haven't figured out exactly how yet). This makes her aware of what she does with her money. Thank you!

Pros
  • everything is fine!
Cons
  • Easy maintainability

Why didn't I think of that?!

The material is a bit thinner than I thought (the tin part bends easily), but the concept is second to none. The drawers are individual and are held together with yellow ribbon (similar to the material awareness bracelets are made of). You can arrange them as shown in the picture or get creative and modify them in other ways. My kids love learning how to manage their money. The included ledger also helps my son be honest about how much he actually took from his little sister's bank when sheโ€ฆ

2 out of 3 are great for new toys and gags

I ordered 3 of these for my 3 kids. Two sets were in perfect condition but one had loose lids. They just fall off. I could have just sent it back for a replacement but I don't have an extra car right now to get to the post office or UPS store so I just used duct tape to attach the covers to this set. Otherwise I think they're great. They are larger than I expected and I love that they come with an index (what's it called?) to keep track of what they put in and take out. I think they will workโ€ฆ

Love Sections, Strong Cans, Hate Elastics

I Like Three Sections! With the spend/save/share method, we decided to teach our children how to manage money. I also like that each section is a separate box. The metal cans are pretty strong and the lids hold up pretty well. I don't like the elastic that is supposed to hold the sections together. It's tight, which is good, but it's difficult for my kids to put it on on their own, and even when it's on, it's difficult to adjust the three shapes so that the set sits flat. Also, kids always take

TOO SMALL ! better for coins only -

gave 1 star for the concept, other companies are doing the same which is great. Gave the bank to a 5 year old who liked the concept and willingly puts most dollar bills he can get into the "stock" bank. BUT: You have to fold the paper note very tightly to get through the slot, ok. Then, after just a few bills are inserted, they pile up on top of each other and you can't get back into the slot. . So when opening, try to lay any folded bills flat to make room. We then stapled the groups of billsโ€ฆ

Serves its purpose and teaches good lessons

My son is 7 years old and we have started paying him a small salary for various household chores from washing cars to folding clothes. This equates to about $7 a week. We wanted to find a good way for him to learn the difference between spending, giving, and saving, and Moonjar seemed like a good solution for him. The jar itself is metal with plastic lids, all held together with a rubber band. It's not the best design, but it does the job. We particularly liked the little register that comesโ€ฆ
