Perfect for tall people!

I had no idea these existed. I'm 6'7" and always just used what came with the chair. When my original one that came with my office chair started slowly sinking, I went on Ebay to find a replacement and found this longer version. At 285 pounds, 6'7", this has been a game changer.

Chair No Longer Sinks, And It Has More Height

The lift cylinder that came with my chair failed after only a few months. This replacement was inexpensive, and it is longer than the original, so now the chair arms clear the top of the desk. For me, the perfect fix.

We've had one Office Depot purchased office chair that had been unusable for 5 years (it had a split cylinder tube resulting from my tall son leaning back in the chair too much}, but I couldn't bring myself to take it to the landfill as the upholstery was still in great shape. So easy to install, works great!

So I took it out of its protective plastic wrap, dropped it into the chair base and mounted the chair upon it. Works perfectly! Except that removing the old one from the base was a royal.pain, but that was solved by a heavily-muscled guy at the local tire shop. He did the work out of view but I imagine a large hammer was involved. For the record, this is an upholstered office chair I got from Staples.

Great for taller folks

I put this strut in a Herman Miller Aeron C chair and it fits perfectly. I'm 6'2". The cylinder that came with the chair didn't put me high enough to comfortably use my mouse and keyboard. This strut fixes the problem. Easy to install, but harder to get the old one out. Lots of videos on youtube, but for the Aeron, take the time to take off the seat and press out the old strut with an 11/16 socket and a hammer.

Exact replacement, perfect fit!

Fit right in! It took me less than 20 seconds to pop it in place. Both ends are tapered, so self aligned. Taking the old one out was a struggle, WD44 helped loosen the 20+ year old bond.

Easy to install and fits like a charm.

The chair is only a little over 3 months old and yet it was a pain to get the old one out but the new one went in like it was made for this chair. And it seems better than the one that came with the chair.

So far, so good on my review.

I'm noticing a little oil on the cylinder, but it seems to be working so far, a couple months after installing. Once you solve the riddle of what to slam to get your old one off, installing this one is a piece of cake.

Big Hammer + Pipe Wrench + You Tube = Fast + Easy

I can feel the difference in weight compared to the class 3 lift it replaced. I paired it with a new 28" 5 point base and a eggshell gel cushion for a 3" boost in ride height of the chair. Now, it is the perfect height for me in the fully compressed position. So even if it fails, I won't notice or care.

Updated: So the issue with it lowering on its own has been solved, although I was passed my return time I emailed this company and explained the issue I was having and they got right back to me and sent me out a new replacement. Wish I'd purchased it sooner

It's amazing the little things that have an outsized impact on life. I'm a bit taller and as a general rule, most adjustable chairs are not high enough to be ergonomic nor even very comfortable. While my cylinder had not completely failed, it was definitely not as firm as when it was when new. This is the first office chair I have ever owned where I don't have it at full extension and it feels great!

Office ergonomics are important. If you spend a lot of time at a keyboard, it's important that you're sitting at the right level for good typing. If your desk is a little too high, it can be a lot easier to change your chair than your desk. You want to sit as high up as you can go so that the keyboard is close to your lap. Easy install with the right tools

Item was delivered quickly and was an easy install with the right tools. Using a wood or rubber mallet and an adjustable pipe wrench, the swap out was like 3 minutes. For those trying to remove the old cylinder. Put the chair on is side, hold onto the leg and hit the bottom of the old cylinder with a rubber/wooden mallet. It may take a few good hard whacks but the floor portion should pop off. Next using the pipe wrench, grab close to where the cylinder meets the seat and turn either direction…

Raised the height of my chair

I needed my chair to raise higher than it could. Instead of buying an entirely new chair, I found this. Swapped the hydraulic pump out for this one, and voilla! My chair now raises to drafting chair height. Saved me well over $100.
