Not sure if anything is different about this sand after others bought it and gave it 5 stars. I was worried it would turn my water black and it did. Sorry but this product is terrible. I have used Seachem black fluorite sand in the past which needs to be rinsed well before adding it to the tank. When I went to wash this sand it all just floated to the surface of the water and clumped together, I've never seen sand do that! nope I kept him in a bucket of water for several days and he never drowned. Using it for your aquarium as advertised will not waste your time or money.

I have just received the sand so I will soak it before use. On first contact with water, other reviewers have stated that it softens and floats to the surface of whatever it is in.
