great router for coverage/dead zones/speed

I have a Netgear wgt624 and it's a HUGE improvement. At the farthest points of my house where there was previously no connectivity or slow performance, I now measure between 90% and 100% of the maximum speed. about 60-70% of max. Moving the laptop more than a few feet will restore full bandwidth. I currently have version 2 of the router. I had version 1 and it tended to freeze a few times a month and required frequent power cycles. This usually happened when WiFi was used. Luckily I didn't have

Good hardware but poor tech support and installer software

I would give the device 5 stars but there is a setup issue in the software and poor tech support. The router works great, I was able to connect to the internet on any computer with a good signal anywhere in my 2 story 5000 square foot home. The instructions for setting up security and encryption are sketchy, but I was able to figure it out. The problem I had was that I couldn't use file and printer sharing until I had spent over 8 hours troubleshooting and this unit was installed on a brand new

After all! W-Lan in the whole apartment!

We live in New York in an 1898 apartment building. It has thick walls and lots of them and so far we have NEVER been able to get a signal in the living room. I'm happily typing this on my MacBook with a dirty martini in hand and excited to be able to use my laptop anywhere in the house. Thanks to reviewers talking about getting a signal on the other end of the backyard or installing a router on the other end of the attic and covering the whole house, I decided to take a chance and buy a cute…

Worked for 18 months then firmware problems

Update: 1 day after I wrote this Netgear sent me a firmware fix which fixed the problems and everything is working fine now. Although I didn't like being blown away like that the first time, I'm glad they fixed it. Not sure if this is coincidence or if they read this (last contact with them that blew my mind was March 18th). So, I'm a fan of Netgear again. I bought it about 2 years ago. It worked great until 6 months ago. I use MAC filtering. I added another address and it crashed. It crashed…

Good router at a great price

I just got a WPN824NA (refurbished) and replaced my old Netgear WGR614 which has worked great for years. The old router just didn't cover a space for about 50 feet with three walls in between. 824EXT does its job. Now I have two or three bars in this room. Installation and checkout were relatively easy (about 30 minutes). If you're already experienced with Netgear, the admin screen is pretty much the same for most settings, so I just made a note of the current settings on the old router and…
