Description of New & Improved Diazo Photo Emulsion Kit By Speedball Art Products: Perfect For High-Quality Photo Prints

Photo emulsion is best for creating detailed or photographic type stencils for screen printing. Speedball’s Diazo Photo Emulsion is a 2-step process where the photo emulsion needs to be “activated.” To activate, the photo emulsion, sensitizer needs to be added. The sensitizer is a very thick oil and needs water to create the right consistency for adding it to the photo emulsion. (The sensitizer bottle will feel unfilled, but don’t worry it is not empty!). No need for a light safe environment or darkroom! Mix photo emulsion under normal light conditions. Set contains 1 each of the following: 6.6oz (195ml) Diazo Photo Emulsion; 2.12g Diazo Sensitizer; 8oz (237ml) Diazo Photo Emulsion Remover and Instructions. Conforms to ASTM D-4236. The jar contains a dried solution. Please add water and shake so that the dried material dissolves into water and turns green.

Emulsion great, Cleaner is useless

I'll break this into two parts, Emulsion and Cleaner.Emulsion: Perfect, *it's a small bottle, so depending on the size of screen and how many layers, you may want a larger bottle.*Screen Cleaner: Absolutely useless. It was like using water. It barely took anything off the screen. I ended up borrowing someone else's cleaner. Very disappointed.

Pros
  • Speedball’s Diazo Photo Emulsion is a 2-step process where the photo emulsion needs to be "activated." To activate, the photo emulsion, sensitizer needs to be added. The sensitizer is a very thick oil and needs water to create the right consistency for adding it to the photo emulsion. (The sensitizer bottle will feel unfilled, but don’t worry it is not empty!)
Cons
  • Product can be messy and difficult to clean up

I found that this product was a little difficult to use as the instructions were not very clear. So I had to get on YouTube to help find better directions. However once I did know how to use said product, I can say that it did work amazingly and I would buy it again.

Pros
  • Lowers the risk of underexposure or overexposure
Cons
  • May not hold up against regular wear and tear

Always buy the speedball brand!

I went with a cheaper off brand screen kit for the last screen I made, never again. speedball just knows how to make this and always has a reliable product!

Pros
  • Great for multi-color projects, producing crisp lines
Cons
  • Can be challenging to achieve consistent results with each use

Perfect for a beginner

This kit is perfect for a beginner. It's pretty much dummy proof (as long as you don't knock the bottle of emulsion off the table in the dark and spill half of it on your basement floor, like I did), and provides everything you need to get started with creating screens. Once you get the hang of it, you'll probably be fine purchasing the emulsion/sensitizer and remover separately as needed, but this kit gets you off on the right foot.

Pros
  • Versatile for use on a variety of surfaces
Cons
  • Can be hard to get the correct thickness for multiple coatings of emulsion

Good product. on my review.

Smaller quantity than I thought but I should have read the description a bit better. Other than that, it's a great product.

Pros
  • Compatible with all Speedball screen printing frames
Cons
  • Can result in blurry prints if not done correctly
