My 2.5 year old son has a very high instep and wide feet. New Balance shoes seem to be the only ones that fit him, and don't cost $50 or more for a pair that he'll outgrow in a few months. We can't fully fit his foot into most shoes, let alone close or zip up the top of his foot. I ordered them in size X and his legs fit easily. You can see how high his instep is as the velcro still doesn't fully close, but his shoe stays on and feels comfortable. Note: Not all New Balance shoes are compatible.
