A must for fans of Herbert Niebling

Eva Maria Lesner did a great job translating some of Herbert Niebling's drawings from German into English. The designs are a good collection of work with projects of varying sizes and multiple levels of experience. Your explanation of working with templates is above average. The only thing I would have wished for her to be different is to use the same symbols as him in her German drafts. In any case, this is a great book and for anyone who collects nibling patterns it will make a good addition…

Secret but necessary

This book is not for beginners, but for people who love the art of lace knitting it is an essential part of the home library. Much has already been written about the variants of crocheted lace in Great Britain and its northern islands, the Eastern European traditions of Estonia and central Russia, but the unique tradition of lace knitting in Germany is limited to publications in German. Flaws complicate beautiful patterns

Nibling's designs are undeniably stunning, however some of the patterns are seriously flawed or have been cropped to fit the pages without concern for user-friendliness. If you're an experienced knitter with a good eye for when things go wrong you should be able to handle it like I did, but beginners will be terribly disappointed.
