Description of Nokian Tires Nordman RS2 205/55 R16 94R winter
The Nordman RS2 winter tire is designed specifically for difficult winter road conditions in regions located north of the Arctic Circle. This model is characterized by excellent handling and grip on icy and snowy surfaces. These properties are ensured by the use of a whole range of technical solutions, as well as modern materials.
Low-Temperature Efficient Rubber CompoundThe tire tread is made from a rubber compound that has been formulated to suit the operating conditions of non-studded, friction-type winter models. Two-thirds of its composition is "silica". Moreover, its latest version, created on the basis of cryosilane, is used. This component allows the tread to maintain elasticity at very low ambient temperatures. Another feature is its increased resistance to heat. Thanks to this, the tire tread retains its properties at temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius, which gives it additional versatility. In turn, the ability to maintain elasticity at an optimal level over a wide temperature range allows the tire to demonstrate excellent handling and grip on slippery, icy winter and wet surfaces in spring.
Multifunctional sipes in the shoulder areasThe tread shoulder areas contain many sipes. Due to a number of design features, these elements perform a wide range of functions. In contact with the road surface, they form numerous edges that improve grip on icy surfaces. Inside the lamellas there are special cavities, which, due to their drop-like shape, dry the contact spot, sucking water from the road surface.
Improved slashplaning resistance Another design feature of the shoulder blocks is the shape of their transverse walls. It is zigzag and contains several sharp teeth. This allows them to easily penetrate the sheet of slush, breaking it. This noticeably speeds up the process of self-cleaning of the tread from foreign inclusions, which, in turn, improves traction under adverse road conditions.
Increased sipe densityGrip properties on an icy surface are provided by a high sipe density. These miniature tread elements together form several thousand sharp edges that easily penetrate the water film on the ice surface, or simply cling to dense snow. In this case, it is worth noting the location of the lamellae almost at a right angle. This significantly increases the efficiency of their work when braking and accelerating. This feature is enhanced by the significant length of the lamellas in the shoulder areas and the central longitudinal rib.
