Windows 10 crashes: USB port mappings

I tried using it with Quartus Prime 17.0 on Windows 10 and still got nothing but a crash after 3 attempts to detect or configure. This is recognized as an Altera blaster (I didn't see the II in Windows Device Manager). There is flux on both sides of the PCB - I doubt the legality of that.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • For seniors

GREAT jtag interface for Altera FPGA

GREAT jtag interface for Altera FPGA, very cheap and works well. STM32f103 and 74HC buffers inside if you are interested. Quartus sees it as a USB blaster - no special drivers required, so they used some cool software tricks to make it work (not that you care) - it "just works".

  • Price
Cons
  • Hard to say

My computer crashes as soon as I plug it in.

I've tried this on 4 different computers, 3 windows 10 machines and a windows 7 machine It all crashes within 10 seconds of connecting. Don't buy this.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Only available in black

Don't buy this

I plugged this into my laptop and it wasn't recognized as a new USB device. After trying multiple USB ports and a PC, I finally found that the USB cable was damaged; not broken, its contacts are burnt out so I can say this is a used cable. I then used a new cable and this time my laptop recognized a new device but no drivers. I had to try three times to install them manually; eventually it appeared as a working device. First attempt by programmer Quartus, BSOD on Windows 10, second attempt the…

Works on Linux but needs to use openocd

None of these clone blasters seem to work with the Quartus 20.X programmer. I've tried many different ways and although the device ID was recognized, it couldn't be set up/programmed. Others suggested trying openocd on Linux, which I did, it was available as a 0.10.0 package. I had to create a simple configuration with just one line called maxiipgm.cfg:jtag newtap auto0 tap -irlen 10 -expected-id 0x020a20dd. Then call it with: openocd -f /usr/share/openocd/scripts/interface/altera-usb-Blaster…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
