Goes well with ONR Good for car washes

I usually use a microfiber bundle with Optimum NoRinse and use one towel per section. Logically, this is the surest way to avoid vortices. But the amount of towels I have to wash is exhausting. A big red sponge promises to put an end to this. I have no long-term evidence that this is better or worse than a bunch of microfiber, but after several months of weekly washing I haven't noticed any new swirls. And it saves time, which is huge.

I don't like it at all

I really like Optimum products but I just don't get it. You can't use it to reach doorknobs or other hard-to-reach places unless you put a lot of pressure on it, and it doesn't feel like you have enough lube unless you use lots of water every time you put it in. Bucket. Maybe that's fine for a hood hung from two trestle legs like in the demo videos, but on real cars I prefer a microfiber cloth or washcloth.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No instructions

Are you rethinking? on sponges and mittens

Not sure about functionality. But it is recommended with ONR so I don't think about it. What the sponge does amazing is get rid of a bunch of dirty towels. sit in the car for about 15 to 30 seconds to allow ONR to do their thing; I then use a BIG RED SPONGE impregnated with ONR to safely remove the kicked up, smeared and encapsulated dirt from the paint, leaving my gunmetal gray car looking like gleaming titanium.

  • Very good value for money

  • Good but not great

Maintenance degrease for consistent results

Works great with ONR. It's not as ergonomic as we'd like, but the extra surface area means more passes on the same panel, just flip the sponge. It is imperative that this sponge be degreased immediately after washing a car that has been driven in the rain. Some engine oils, resins and pavement stick to the sponge even with ONR and need to be removed with Power Clean. This is not a complaint, just a note. Photographs of the sponge were taken after about 40 uses. Before Power Clean and after. It…

Best stirrer for ONR when used as directed

I knew what it was when I bought it and although a new large black sponge was available for the same price I chose it because I plan on making it to use only. Sponge with ONR. It seems to work fine if you use ONR correctly. I soaked it in a bucket of ONR 256:1 for 24 hours and let it soak in storage before using it. It rings slightly, the quality of the foam structure is excellent. The size is large but fits my medium to large hands well. The cost is high, I wish it was $10 but I see a premium…

Best sponge with ONR

I am an avid auto detailer who spends many weekends detailing cars as his 9-5 isn't paid enough. Optimal Polymer Technology and their Big Red Sponge and Optimum No Rinse My conditioning process just got a lot faster, more economical and cleaner! Using Ivan's waterless washing method, I was able to wash, polish and wax this BMW e36 M3 in just over an hour! No twists, scratches or fuss which makes me VERY happy. I would say the BMW had dust, dirt and pollen for several months as it was on the…

Wash in cold water, store in gallons. Freezer bag size

I've been using ONR for over a year now purely for car washing. I used fluffy microfiber towels for washing, soaking three of them in a bucket and rotating them so each large slab was cleaned with a fresh towel. I recently bought a large red sponge and I am very happy with my purchase and its effectiveness. I can wash in less time (30 minutes or less) and the sponge actually cleans better than towels. Times when pollen falls in snowdrifts! I live in an apartment park under an open canopy, so my
