The optical performance is a lie!

Received the Optoma HD28HDR today and did some testing prior to final installation and setup. I tried the QR code for more detailed settings and found that Optoma says HD28HDR doesn't exist? The description also says it has an optical output, so I bought a long optical cable for it. without optical output! 3.5mm audio output only. I found the image quality overview quite good, but I am very disappointed with the lack of product information from the company and the incorrect information in the…

Good image quality but dust spot in lens

This was to be my second Optoma projector. I bought my first one over 6 years ago and it still works great. I ended up returning this product as there was a speck of dust in the lens. Otherwise I would not have sent it back. Although it was barely noticeable, this product is too expensive to have such a problem when new. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I'd rather pay another $10 for them to do better quality control at the factory or be more careful when assembling the lens to avoid this kind of…

My friends can't believe the picture!

I had an old Optoma HD 20 and have underestimated the advances in technology ever since. Light ones are lighter and dark ones are darker. Even my unbiased family noticed the clarity through no fault of my own. I watch on a 95 inch screen with adjustable ambient lighting. Vivid mode is great for all lighting situations, but I prefer Cinema with the lights off, as seen in my photos. Remote control is ok with many options. I spent 10,000 on my first HD projector and while I'm not a videophile I…

Better than BENQ th585

Picture quality is super. My vision is not very good and HDR is more than enough for me. The speaker is ok, but you need a real speaker. I'm not picky about sound but you're just getting a little greedy for your home theater and want to upgrade when the picture is this great. I don't know how the lights will work, but I have an extended warranty on my credit card, so I think I'll be fine. Compared to BENQ th585 (yes I bought both), both are 2020 versions. The difference in the pictures between…

Garbage. Do not buy - video projectors

This device's picture and brightness are quite good. The first thing you'll notice is that the zoom is utterly useless. You will almost certainly have to drill new holes in the ceiling to reinstall it as the projected image is nowhere near what it replaces. The next thing you'll notice is that the rainbow effect is awful and quite frankly puts people who are sensitive to flickering lights at risk of a seizure. After that, you'll find that the power button on the remote doesn't work, but don't…

A bit pricey but very very good!

Ok, I chose another cheaper model, HD143X with 3000 lumens and Full HD resolution. This HD28HDR model is very different, HDR and "4K ready" are of great importance. Colors are way better, this one is 3600 lumens, 4K isn't true 4k of course, but it's not Full HD either, it's somewhere in between, I mean you'll see the difference forever! 4k is a luxury I can't afford in my case (a 4k projector costs $1,000 or more) but this projector is a very good middle ground between something really…

I'm thinking about it? BUY IT!

I've had this projector for over 6 months now so I think my review is pretty objective. I LOVE this projector! Read more below. My setup I installed this projector in my very bright living room. I have 5 7ft windows perpendicular to my screen so here in Texas we get plenty of natural sunlight during the day. Despite this, the image is fairly clear and not blurry, at least in my opinion (the first two photos). I connected this projector to a CineGrey screen. I highly recommend using a light…

Works perfectly in daylight!

My husband and I bought this projector to replace a similar Optoma DLP projector that we have had for 6 years. For the same price, this one is now much brighter. We used to have to wait until dark to see anything properly on the projector, but it's still very clear in the middle of the day (unless in direct sunlight, of course). This aspect alone is worth an upgrade for us because we can get so much more out of it. The picture is very good; Colors are bright and accurate. I also like the focus…

Replaces a 7 year old Optoma HD20

We had an Optoma HD20 for 7 years that eventually stopped working. We use our theater room every night and love it so I decided to stay with Optoma as our last one worked so well. What I like about the new HD28HDR(1): The projector now has sound, which is a nice addition. (2) Fan noise is next to nothing compared to our HD20 (3) Has 4K to work with our Roku Ultra (4) Picture is even better, great contrast and incredible sharpness. It's just perfect, we have a 100 inch screen and it's just…
