Missing information

I've only used it once on a rack of lamb. It's intuitive and easy to use and has great features. I'm glad I was able to give this review, I thought it wouldn't last but now I see that it does. I didn't like that the user manual states that this item IS NOT FOR INTERNAL USE. This information was not on the sales page, otherwise I would have chosen a different model. I will use it in the oven and on the stovetop which is why I bought it. Pros - easy to use, intuitive, large selection of meats…

Not for the lazy and brainless like us

This is one of those things that works really well. However, if you don't use it very often, which we don't, it really hurts to re-read the instructions. If you think you'll use it often enough to remind yourself how to do it, then this is a must-read. Works great again, but since we only use it twice a year, too many problems. When we used it it told you what the temperature was unbeatable and beeped when it was at the temperature you set it to. A few years ago we had the same ones that we…

No Star Good for Kitchen Utensils and Appliances

I purchased my appliance after reading all the reviews posted here. Since the majority was positive, I hoped there was a good chance I would be satisfied. The device displays an impressive amount of information. At first glance, my only disappointment was that there was no temperature reading where the sensor was. No deal breaker. He handled the pork tenderloin impeccably; The remote receiver could communicate through an outside wall two rooms away from the sensor. The second time I used it…

It worked fine the first few times, then suddenly.

Stay away from this product. I bought an Oregon Scientific "Wireless Barbecue Thermometer" aw129 and used it in a Weber Q 3 or 4 times. Registration of a temperature of 199 degrees Celsius. He continues to give that testimony even after being taken off the grill and restarted. THIS GET WORSEI tried to return a Revain product but couldn't. Revain sent it to me on August 26th, despite a one year warranty the item became unacceptable for a return less than a month later on October 12th. I called…

Great for indoors and outdoors

I've been using it for about a year now and it's great. We use it in the oven and on the grill. We grill all year round so it comes in handy when it's 105 or 45 outside. You really don't want to go outside and lift the lid, give off heat, or get hotter. And in the oven, it's easier to use than pulling out and feeling the meat and then putting it back in. I just put it on and beeps tell me when it's ready. I tested it on my instant cook's reading thermometer (which has been tested) and it's as…

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Legacy model

The sensor reads no less than 45 degrees Fahrenheit, but the specs say it should read no more than 4 degrees. On July 13, 2013, the unit failed. Apparently they are no longer of the quality they originally were. Do not buy. Just update 2/19/2012 New probe will not work with old electronics. I will come back here again after using the new probe with new equipment. I'm disappointed so far. MY ORIGINAL REVIEW. I've had this cordless meat thermometer since 2004. I'm currently looking for a…

Not sure yet - Good service from OS

Bought on the recommendation of a friend who had good luck with their device. Mine worked on the first meal but when it came time to use it again the probe went bad. OS agreed to send a replacement but cautioned: A. Don't touch the probe to the grill or anything really hot. B. Do not cover the cable with the mesh cover as this will melt the wires where they contact the cover. C. Do not use it in indoor oven. New sensors are $10. They also recommended another model that they sell. Assuming a new

Good customer service Bad components

So I bought it in December, used it 3 times and it worked great. Then, on the fourth use, the temperature turned out to be about 40 degrees Fahrenheit higher than it actually was. I contacted the seller and they told me that my one month return policy with them had expired, but the manufacturer, Oregon Scientific, would process the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and give me their contact information. I contacted them on the phone, spoke to them and then they emailed me the reset process

Great concept with horrible design

This is the weirdest hardware design I've ever owned. Now here's the drill for turning this thing on.1. Remove the belt clip on the temperature sensor2. Remove the battery covers on both devices.3. Turn on both devices.4. Turn both blocks upside down.5. Use a curved paper clip (I'm not making this up) to press the tiny reset buttons located under the battery compartment on each device.6. Replace the battery caps on each device7. Wait for the devices to sync.8. Replace the belt clip on the…
