Large Strainer on Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

I bought this strainer to replace an old strainer that lost its leg. This one has about the same capacity as the previous one, but I like its shape more. The wider, flatter shape is easier to pour and toss and fits easily in both the top and bottom racks of the dishwasher. There are ridges around the holes, but not enough to be noticed. I usually just give it a quick rinse and throw it in the dishwasher anyway, so I don't have a problem with it chapping my lips. after dousing with boiling…

OXO does it again! on Screens

I love OXO products, the brand is always so reliable and durable and this screen is no different. I thought I needed a mesh screen but looking at other products they looked flimsy and cheap. This strainer is not mesh but it has many holes and drains quickly, I have no problem with water retention at the bottom. The colander is one piece which means the handles aren't bolted or welded on, which is a big plus in my book (I once broke a handle while draining potatoes). It's made of thick steel, so

I'm glad I bought it but some questions I want to share with you.

I love this colander and I'm glad I bought it but it's not perfect. Here are two facts I would like to know before buying: 1. As already mentioned in another review, the small black "feet" on the bottom are definitely not "non-slip". If I have a pot full of history and water I want to drain, it will slide down the bottom of my sink when I "dump" the combination into a colander. The first time this happened, I dumped most of the pasta down the sink instead of the colander. The sieve made of…

Manual cleaning can be difficult

I needed a replacement for my metal ceramic coated screen. I needed a replacement because my current colander had plastic pads on the handles that wore out over time and the handles were very wobbly. We have a ceramic coated sink and the strainer I had sits on a metal ring which leaves marks on the sink until the next time it is cleaned with abrasive sink cleaners. I also didn't like that sometimes there was some sort of negative suction on the bottom stand causing water to get stuck and not…

Good kitchen sieve; 5 Quarts

Now that I'm retired and cooking every night I figured it was time for a good colander. My decision was aided by the breakage of an old plastic colander from the pharmacy, which broke and then splintered on the sides. I read the reviews here and decided to place an order. I wanted: * stainless steel * handles that are extensions of a colander, not riveted or welded * big enough to fit a full 16-ounce box of spaghetti * strong enough not to be easily scratched or cracked until I read See the…
