🔍 Enhanced Scanning Precision with Pacific Image Electronics PrimeFilm PF1800S Scanner and SilverFast SE Software Review

This little scanner works. After I got the new drivers it worked fine with Windows XP. This is a single scan and it takes about 5-7 minutes to scan a slide. Problem: It overheats after 3 or 4 slides. You have to turn it off and start again after half an hour or so.

Reading some of the following reviews reminded me that I use a Mac (17" iMac 1.25GHz, 768 RAM): Things usually works. The PF1800 is actually a good scanner, although not great. I scan all my dad's slides and it gives good user friendly results. I use 1200-3000 dpi which allows me to print good quality images in a manageable file. Dimensions. Everything worked fine for the price, you should have at least 256MB of RAM to use it properly and take your time as you have to edit one slide at a time. The quality was good.

I bought this entry level scanner because I didn't want to spend $550 on a Nikon. The SilverFast software is a joke. It cannot process output from a scanner. I have VueScan and Viola. works wonderfully. Scans are better than from a tablet and of course optimized in Photoshop. Take 1800u instead and save $10.

SilverFast SE software is the worst software I have ever used. The instructions are vague and difficult to follow. The program is almost impossible to use. It is very difficult to get help as it is available (by phone) while I am at work and costs $1.99 per minute. So far no response to email attempts to get help. DO NOT BUY THIS!
