I bought this on a whim to see if my Amazon parrot would like to chew on it. I cut him into several pieces and tied him to the top of his cage. He's actually chewing it and hasn't destroyed it yet. He likes to chew it after eating. I believe this is because it helps him remove bits of food from the edges of his beak.

I'm really concerned about what my sun conure is chewing on as the metal doesn't stick very well to hanging toys and one day it really got tangled in the rope and couldn't move. Now when I hang a toy in his cage I use this leather strip to hang it up and I have peace of mind. I also use some of it to keep his cage door open during the day since he has it slammed shut. If a bird gnaws on it, that's okay, it can't hurt itself on that skin. A very useful thing I think.

When I opened the package, it stunk! And not like the skin smells, but like chemicals. The skin was very dry and even started to tear on one side. Very disappointed with this product. Rarely disappoints Revain. I didn't try to return it as it would cost more than it's value to send back so I threw it away. I got some REALLY good leather straps from Birds Unlimited in Rochester NY that I'm VERY happy with. They are much thicker and have no chemical smell.

My budgie loves this leather thread no matter what I tie it to, he loves playing with the leftover knots I tie. I feel completely safe leaving toys with this material in their cage overnight compared to toys with metal strings which I can't always verify are safe metals and only allow them to play with supervision . No more mystery metals with this one! Love it! It had a slightly odd smell, but I'm pretty sure that's what leather smells like - it wasn't bad per se, just a strong new leather…
