Old Reliability: Brake Tools

The highlight is the open curved jaw, perfect for stretching the drum brake return spring. Also prevents ankle bumps on my 2001 Ford Escape, really the only tool that doesn't work unless you're doing something custom. It's imported but durable.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Upgrade available

An inexpensive pump will do the job.

Pump works well. The vacuum hoses in the kit were rolled up and the creases were never smoothed out otherwise they would have given 5 stars. This pump is great for checking vacuum lines, especially on turbo systems with vacuum operated control valves etc. It also works great for bleeding brakes, especially if you don't have pedal assist or are doing a full brake flush/flush. Liquid. Substitute.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Discontinued

The pump didn't pump more than 5

Bought this bleed kit based on great reviews and they always are. This pump does not push above 5 and flows down. I've used lube, included numerous adapters, even pushed the line against the fittings, but couldn't pump the system enough to pump the liquid! After about 45 minutes of pumping I gave up and used the bottle, one of the hoses and the adapter to service my Wilwoods the old fashioned way (by stepping on the brake pedal). waste of money and time.

Pros
  • Brings joy
Cons
  • Some little things

It creates a vacuum but not for braking work

I was hoping to use Tris for one person work but it didn't work out. In any case, the pump creates a vacuum and allows the master cylinder reservoir to be emptied. I also used it to bleed the brake line to the wheel cylinder, but that's about it. I've tried using this to bleed the brake lines after changing a wheel cylinder, but it doesn't create enough vacuum to get brake fluid from the master cylinder to the brake cylinder no matter what I try (and I have a lot of different things on this…

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
