K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Café - Keep Your Cat's Food and Water Warm Outdoors! Review

We use this bowl in the garden to take care of stray cats in the winter. This works very well. Food stays warm, nothing freezes. I love this product. It's hard to watch cats helplessly lick up frozen food. I really appreciate the comfort of having something like this. We can eat two cans a day without kibble and it's good to know they won't go hungry until I catch them and bring them to the Humane Society.

I was watering water for the neighbor's cats who were hanging out by the back door of my patio but the water was completely frozen the other morning so I bought this heated bowl to keep it warm. I only use both bowls for water, so I can't say if it prevents food from freezing. I clean and refill my stainless steel bowls every day so they always have clean drinking water. They love it and I'm sure they will love it even more when winter really comes!

I really wanted to like it, but over time I realized that it is actually dangerous for the wild cats that I feed and sing with it. I didn't turn it on at first because we had a warm fall and winter. When the weather finally got cold enough to freeze, I turned it on and found it got very hot. So hot I burned myself on the metal bowls that came with it. I keep it and still use it, but don't turn it on on days when the temperature is above freezing. Hope it doesn't burn the cats.

Feeding a group of feral cats from my front porch. They come twice a day, fill up on food and water, take a quick nap in the little cat houses I have, and then return to their colony. My feral kitten has a heated shelter and just before our first hard frost this thermal cat cafe came along. I pocketed it and filled it with water and her food. She had no trouble adjusting. I feed them morning and evening. The feed bowl is always warm (and empty) when I pick it up to fill. Since I feed her a mix of dry and canned food, it was important that her food didn't freeze. I like that this unit is completely sealed. Not only the shells (2), but also the cord, which is surrounded by coiled metal to prevent it from being crushed and bitten by animals. The beautiful stainless steel bowls are removable for cleaning, and there is heavy plastic under and around the hole that holds the bowls, which heats up to prevent the food/water from freezing. *********UPDATE************ From 5 stars to 2 stars Although yes, that's the heater I'm on I just noticed that since he was working hard in sub-zero temperatures, there was a horrible smell of electricity coming out of the unit. That's not overheating but I'm very skeptical about this kit, that smell shouldn't be there and it's strong.
