I don't have to touch anything but the handle. This scoop is removed from the holder and returned with ONE HAND. It works for gravel bedding and pellet bedding. Love the size and the fact that all the germs hide in the holder when I'm done! When I brush it I'm so happy I don't have to touch a spot and it dries perfectly. I've had one of these for over a decade and still use it every day. It is durable, well made and still looks brand new. So I decided to order a new one. Not good. The new one is a completely different, much cheaper and softer plastic. It does not open and close without effort, the parts are warped and do not fit together well. I ordered this because it works just like my toilet brush holder and I love how it opens and closes without touching anything . When I first got this I didn't care as the scoop seemed too big to get in and out easily. I found that it was just me and not the product. I learned how to use it properly and love it. Any cat food I can keep out of sight makes me happy, so just seeing the holder and not the scoop is great.

I like the lid stand: it's practical and much more hygienic. However, the shovel itself is very poorly designed. Notably, it has a jagged edge instead of a flat edge, making it almost impossible to scrape dirt off the bottom of the tray. I spent more time raking and more often had to clear out the tray completely because the mess can't be shoveled away. I finally got another bullet. Would recommend looking into another brand.

I use pine pellets for my two new kittens and the holes in this spoon are too small to separate the droppings from the pellets. However, I have found that after cleaning the poop I can scoop the sawdust pellets into this scoop and the sawdust will fall through the holes leaving uncontaminated pellets behind. So I still use this shovel and it works well for my needs. This is a great product and I love the scoop bin.

What I don't like about this product is that I have to use it to change cat boxes. A year ago I got two kittens and they are wonderful - Cleokatra and Jun. Each of them has their own trays.
