My parents and I used Presto pressure cookers and they can cook in them all the time. But until recently they had to change tires maybe every 5 years or so. In recent years, this has been almost as common as replacing a smoke detector battery. Does Persto use a new and improved rubber formulation?

We got a pressure cooker from a friend who has used it for a long time but not much. The gasket was dry and had a few cracks. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could order a new one online and did so straight away. We received the pad 2 days later and used it the same day to cook our first meal in the pressure cooker. Since then we often cook in it. I would recommend replacing the gasket when it looks dry or worn. It's worth every penny we spent on it.

Got it for my Presto model 0128206 after losing the pressure plug. I knew it was time to replace it as the original gasket didn't seal or weld like it used to. The original lasted for several years before the seal itself became less pliable and harder as it dried.
