Just spend $60

Got the 408 lq4 build I take. 2 rings filed by hand. Lasts over 20 minutes per ring. annoying when you have a lot to do. It turns a few days of romance into a few hours of romance, and the cuts are a lot more vertical. just be careful if you find that 1 turn of the handle takes. 001, don't think 5 quick spins subtract 0.005. This will take off more and you will lose your rings. I accidentally bent a few of mine.

Don't waste your money

Absolute bullshit. I bought this ring filter to overhaul a BMW engine and I really regret it. The grinding wheel wobbles back and forth, making a clean cut absolutely impossible. Even if you manage to cut a ring perfectly, the chances of all rings being the same are extremely slim. In addition, the molybdenum coating is more prone to chipping, causing even more problems. Because of this I now have to buy a new set of rings and a new filter. Buyer Warning.

A great little ring grinder!

I was pleasantly surprised by this little coffee grinder. Once secured to the workbench, the pins hold the rings level so you end up with a square cut, which is crucial for ring gaps. The handle lets you control how much you grind at a time. Initially the disc was a bit uneven but after a few rings it smoothed out on that part of it. Then the rings are polished smooth and evenly, the burrs didn't even need to be ground, they were gone! Too bad I didn't get this grinder on other builds many…

Works great for less money but requires more work/time.

Used to overhaul the LS engine. They did a great job and got the job done, but it took a lot of work and time. You'll get faster with it the more you use it. Make sure you use the anchor points to place it on a solid surface. Makes work a lot easier. Don't be fooled, you need to invest some time and energy to use it, but the product does exactly what it promises for a lot less money than the automatic settings. The pen is a bit awkward to use and can cause hand cramps due to its size, otherwise

Works but very poor design

The manufacturer made a critical design error that was easily corrected at the factory. See photo. When grinding piston rings, ALWAYS grind from the outside in to avoid burring on the cylinder wall side of the rings. Engine Rebuild 101. Demo video showing Proform Piston Ring File Tool 66785. Grinding Tutorial Review YouTube's grinding guides show how to use the product according to its design and HOW NOT to use piston ring files - burrs can cut into cylinder walls. Garbage. Don't waste money.

Absolute bullshit. When I first took it out of the box, the wheel rocked back and forth. I tested it on a used piston ring before installing the end play on my new rings and it stuck. They all stopped spinning together. I removed a small plug to see if I could put some WD-40 on the shaft but no. It was of no use. I tried to remove the shaft that the grinding wheel rides on and it was bonded to the metal case. So I took a 5 pound hammer to try and knock it out and nothing. Super tight. I knew I…

Additional QC Required

Bought this product to sharpen my piston rings for a heavy duty engine. Very simple product, initially it seemed to work well. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the cutting disc is not level - it wobbles as it rotates. This wobbling can cause some problems as most piston rings are coated with plasma molybdenum and as the blade oscillates it is constantly pressing the top or bottom of the bezel against the tool and scraping the plasma molybdenum off your rings. The handle is too close to…
