Hobie Mirage 🚣 Drive H-Rail Compatible PROYAKER Leash Review

I bought this to protect my $900 drive from accidentally falling in water. I've had a few close encounters while on the docks, but worry no more!

I was initially a bit skeptical about entrusting this leash to my hobby and it turned out to be perfect! I even turned my yak around and he felt safe with that line. Recommended for purchase.

Mirage Drive is really expensive. Getting my Hobie Mirage Eclipse in and out of the water gives me peace of mind. It's sturdy, so if my Mirage motor falls, I can just pull it out again.

Velcro mount allows the drive to be attached to the kayak's seat, eliminating the need to drill additional holes in the body to insert the clip on the tip. The coiled cord keeps it neat and out of the way.

Not only are Mirage rims expensive, but production is lagging behind. So if you lose one, you'll have to paddle the old-fashioned way and pull out your wallet. It happens in seconds, which is great. You can swap out the buckles for stainless steel, but so far so good.

Do not use when sea kayaking. The cleat broke when my kayak was swept away by a wave while lowering to shore. My 2020 Hobie Outback pedal drive was on top of the kayak when the clamp broke. My hard drive has set sail! A very expensive lesson. The drive costs about $1,000. Rather spend a little more money and get a better leash.

Overall this leash is pretty good and better than the $37 Hobie leash in my opinion. The only thing I didn't like were the plastic clips that attach the drive to the leash. I replaced both ends with stainless steel chain links, which should be much stronger, giving me peace of mind that my $1,000 disc won't end up on the bottom of the lake. Generally this is required if you have a hard drive that doesn't float, which most of them are.

I bought my Hobie used and the last owner didn't have a leash for his Mirage Drive. I didn't think much about it until a recent deep sea fishing trip blew me away with a big wave. I didn't roll it, but the mirage drive slid sideways, and luckily I managed to grab it before it fell straight to the ground. I checked prices to replace one of these and it cost well over $500. So yeah, now I'm tying that and my place.

I don't know if my leash was made how I made it on purpose but I would have made it differently. It has two straps that can be attached with Velcro around an object such as an H-rail. I have an issue with the hook and mesh sides of the velcro. The strap now wraps and secures easily, but the entire side of the velcro stays in the attached strap loop, which now wraps around whatever you have the strap attached to. So any movement of the attached strap and now you have an annoying scratching noise
