I'm revising my original review based on information from customer service. DeX will not start automatically if no power is supplied from the USB-C port. When the Switch is on, DeX works like a charm. Without it, the Note 9 only uses HTTP for screen mirroring. I am deducting a star because this small detail is not found in the product itself.

Overall a great device. First I had to figure out how it works and it took a few steps to get Samsung Dex working but after troubleshooting and trying a few different steps it worked. The material is not as safe as I thought. The outer screen was loose and came off after a few uses. However, I was able to push it back without any problems. Overall this is a great product and definitely helps when you need a desktop interface on the go like Samsung Dex.

First impression was that the product was falling apart. from the box. I put it back in place but my goodness that says something about how long it's going to last. Absolutely nothing happened on the first connection. Then, after a few tries, I got a notification that "HDMI is connected". Then, after further attempts, I received a Samsung DEX notification, but it soon disappeared as "HDMI was disabled". DEX never shows but I can mirror the screen but I can't switch to DEX. Update: After 2 days and 2 emails from their support team this is still not progressing. I'm wondering if their support even knows what they're talking about, or could it be a robot answering machine? Exactly the same emails 24 hours apart asking me to plug the power in. I was originally going to use this as a USB-C hub for my phone. I love using a USB DAC with it (Android is great with USB audio devices!) but I also wanted to use it with my Nintendo Switch. This Dex adapter worked great with my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Otter Defender series case. Incidentally, in the other case, the hole was too small for the USB-C port.
