Before turning off the water, I turned on the hot water. I think rotating the valve 45 degrees and then pulling it out with pliers helped. Additional lubricant was used for the reinstallation.

Great replacement for the 1222 month cartridge for my shower. I had to install it twice to get hot water in the right position. I had to remove and reinstall them upside down. Lube was enough. It was good.

This item is slightly larger than the original. I actually broke the tube putting it in. Buy the original, don't waste your money on it. All is not lost, I was able to use gaskets from it and put in an old one that actually worked.

For beginners: Watch the YouTube video. You may also need a drawing tool. The cartridge comes with plastic baking soda and luckily it worked. Be sure to completely release the back pressure, slowly and gently rock the cartridge with the baking soda, take your time. Once it moves back and forth, it should come out. It's a very simple job and a lot cheaper than calling a plumber.
