What I don't like: It's very difficult to see through the black mesh what's going on with your caterpillars, pupae or butterflies. It's also very difficult to see the frass unless you use paper towels which tend to cause the frass to curl up even when neatly folded. They are not strong but rather thin. I wouldn't trust them outside as even a light breeze could blow them away. I regret the purchase and would not recommend it to anyone.

I've raised two generations of sailboats and a generation of monarchs on them. It does its job very well BUT it is difficult to wash off completely. Even when rinsing with a hose, the lip around the zipper picks up dirt. It is also difficult to remove pupal shells due to the fine mesh, but this may simply be due to the way sailfish make their pupae. However, for a beginner butterfly caterpillar hotel, this is very good.

It would be 5 stars if there was a viewing window on one side as you have to take the milkweed out of the device to see the details through the black screen. We have 6 white restcloud attachments that we use to breed monarchs. The big black ones fit the space better and looked better on our porch so I was hoping to buy 5 of these.
