I bought this to connect my thunderbolt dock to my laptop so the protruding cable doesn't stick out the side of the laptop 3" and potentially snag on something and potentially damage the USB C connector. I now have a nice right-angle dongle that only sticks out 3/4" from the side and neatly stows my heavy Thunderbolt dock cable in the back of the laptop.
