Pure scrap a shame in Rutland

Item 100 degrees arrived. Set it on a wood burning fireplace insert that was at 400 degrees and is still reading 100. Put it in an oven at 400 degrees it says item 150. I have a 5 year old Rutland that works great and I wanted this as a spare. Poor quality control on this one. Should never have shipped with 100 degree ads. Can't call Rutland - poor customer service. I just drop it My revenge is to write this bad review.

Pros
  • Many fit
Cons
  • No instructions

Good Enough Best in Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

It took our wood stove about a year before the spring on the back fell out of the channel connecting it to the indicator needle on the front. I suspect if you used this vertically on a single wall stovepipe it would last a lot longer. We had it lying horizontally on the stove because we have a double-walled pipe. Eventually all the back and forth movement combined with gravity caused the feather to fall out. However, I ordered the same model again. It's pretty cheap and good enough.

Pros
  • Absolutely Awesome!
Cons
  • Functionality

Good accuracy for kitchen utensils and appliances

Accuracy currently good. I bought this and the Inferno to see what the difference is. i found this Rutland (cheaper) is accurate compared to Inferno. I put both in the oven and set it on 450 for about an hour. Rutland was there when Hell read 575. Inferno is back. Rutland is easy to read. I'm not sure why others had problems. If you really want to, you can paint the needle white to help a little. The magnet works fine. Finally, ti reads the correct temperature.

Pros
  • Acceptable

  • Minor issues

Good thermometer for wood stove.

We've had this thermometer for about a week now - we use it on the stove chimney above the wood stove - and everything seems fine. I'm happy with that. It replaced the one that was lost when the chimney sweep lost it. Based on the old thermometer, I believe this one measures the temperature accurately. (I wish they had made one that was easier to read from a short distance, like ten or 12 feet. In other words, the markings on the dial would be more contrasting. "Dark" needle on it - so I could…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Ratio set

Died on arrival but after some back and forth the company finally honored their 18 month warranty and sent a replacement. The spring was separated (broken off) from the dial, so it didn't work. Unfortunately the new one didn't work accurately until I lubricated the center post when it got stuck and now it runs about 20% of my other, more accurate thermometer. everything works fine too. I was finally able to reattach the dial to the spring so it reads the temperature, which seems/looks correct…

Pros
  • A little above
Cons
  • Sad packaging
