Works great for my purposes, playing DVD and VHS on an old non-HD TV via standard RCA jacks. It's tunerless, so you can't record from the show. I was a bit concerned about the quality of these devices after reading the reviews - there are many bad reviews for ALL products of this type, although unsatisfied consumers are more likely to leave reviews. I bought it for my parents. They bought a Memorex, but the VCR was bad. I looked carefully for a long time and decided on this one because of the HDMI connection and not on Sony. If they get a new TV, we're ready. HDMI is really good at connecting audio and video over a single cable. The only problem is that it is only suitable for a DVD player. I bought this DVD/VCR player along with a Samsung LNT4065F, both from Revain. The player arrived quickly and was as advertised. I review my purchases carefully as my money is limited and I want to get the best bang for my buck. I knew it didn't have a tuner and I knew the VCR had to play through the RCA jacks.
