A good thing! - Data storage

Lightning speed. The MacBook Pro 2011 boot time is now about 10 seconds from off before logging in and another 10 seconds before opening the application. No more bouncing icons - click and it opens. A good thing!

Arrived today and it's pretty cool. I tried 7

Arrived today and it's pretty cool. I've tried 7, maybe 8 or so different brands of SSDs and different models of those brands over the years and I have to say that Samsung's choice again doesn't disappoint. This Pro model is fast and agile. Of the two test programs I use, the 860 Pro outperforms any other I've tested. Just great.

Fast, but NO power failure protection.

Fast but NO power failure protection. I wasn't aware of this when I bought it. I want to buy a Samsung SSD with power failure protection. A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) can help, but if the power supply, motherboard, or hard drive controller loses power, your data may be at risk. Other SSDs (including Samsung Enterprise devices) have full power failure protection with tantalum capacitor power supply circuits.

    • Pleasant to use

    • Some problems

DIED IN ONE WEEK! on Computers and Accessories

Return this junk for $1500! It crashed from the start, I thought it was "user error" for being able to get it to work. Today I tried to use it and NONE of my computers, PCs and Macs will read the disc. I wish Crucial had 4TB drives. Crucial SSDs are the absolute BEST! I have a Crucial1GB SSD that I've been using for 4 years now and it works great and has never given me any problems. *Crucial MX500 2TB* <<< I'm going to buy a Crucial 2TB drive, maybe 2. I can see they're only $389.99…

Let the buyer be alert. Better check the warranty period!

UPDATE: I just checked and according to a comment from Samsung support, the incorrect warranty period on their website has been corrected for parts: 60 months, labour: 60 months. FIRST CHECK: Your warranty on this SSD is THREE years, parts and labour. Not FIVE as it says here. It doesn't matter that the box also says "5 Year Limited Warranty". Because when I looked at the model code on the Samsung website (MZ-76P256BW) directly on the same packaging, I came back, in the guarantee statement it…

Laptops amazing 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSDs. Aside from the obvious increase in storage capacity, the 860 Pro is slightly faster than the 850 Pro in almost all benchmark tests and actual storage usage in the real world. but not as much as i thought. (Should be limited to legacy SATA III interface) See attached photos for comparison of benchmarks between 860 Pro and 850 Pro. The Samsung 860 Pro has a much higher endurance rating than the Samsung 850 Pro, but it falters at just 5 years. Samsung's…

No more buying a new $3,000 MacBook Pro

So I wanted to buy a new MacBook Pro and thought after 150 bucks try SSD Pro. (If I do that, it might be a better one). And what a big surprise, this thing works like an absolute beast. What I didn't expect is that my graphics are much sharper. (also 16 grams before this purchase). Worth every penny. I did a few extra things to make it work even better. First, I didn't save the time machine. I reinstalled the operating software after a hard reset to have a clean version of the latest Mac OS…

I needed more SATA III storage for my 17.3" ASUS ROG -Gaming laptop so I bought a Samsung 860 Pro SSD with a capacity of 2TB to replace my 1TB laptops Samsung 850 Pro solid state drive Apart from the obvious increase in storage capacity the 860 Pro is in almost all benchmarks- Tests and actual real world memory usage Slightly faster than the 850 Pro but not as much as I thought (should be limited by the old SATA III interface) Attached are comparison photos of tests between the 860 Pro and 850…

    • Not bad, but...

I am very satisfied with this Samsung 860 Pro 1TB SATA SSD from Samsung. I've gotten a few to upgrade a client tower of 3.5" hard drives and breathed new life into system performance. I also took the opportunity to run some performance tests. It was good. I used Crystaldiskmark to evaluate hard drive performance. It tests with and without the command queue. Since all of the current operating systems I use (Windows 7 and above, Linux, and Mac) enable command queues by default, I'll focus on…
