Type of review

I bought Sangean MMR-88, Midland ER310 and Running Snail at the same time. Everything seems to be up and running right out of the box after a day of testing. Time will tell how long they last and work. Personally, I prefer the Sangean MMR-88 to the other two I've bought. It appears to have better build quality and speaker/sound than the ER310 and Running Snail. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't give you the option of using an extra battery like the ER310 does. The digital…

Don't buy less than this baby!

I have owned 8 Sangean radios in the last 30 years. Sangean doesn't make garbage! I bought this MMRb88 to replace the Sangean pocket radios that I carried with me most of the day. When the MM88 arrived I was a little disappointed that it wouldn't be as convenient to carry as their pocket models due to its weight and size. But then I bought the Occidential Leather Model 95T Clip-On Deep Pouch which is perfect for the radio and I wear my new radio on my belt. This is a great accessory for my…

Battery? Which battery?

Sangean makes great radios and the MMR-88 weather station is no exception. Reception is good, the crank and solar panel work perfectly, the radio itself is sturdy and lightweight for quick packing in an emergency. There are other weather radios like Midland, but the MMR-88 excels in having a removable battery. So why only one star? you ask. Because, I reply, people think less about removable batteries that cannot be replaced. First, Sangean initially chose a rather rare size, 18350. Keep in…

Great little radio but throw away the battery that came with it

I spent hours reading countless Revain reviews before deciding on this radio. I've had it for about a month and it's working great so far! The handgrip feels solid, but don't expect much from it, as you're actually charging a dead phone for more than a quick call. A fully charged MMR-88 charged my drained iPhone6 to 6% and then stopped charging. At this point, the radio and flashlight are still working - there simply isn't enough power left to continue charging. I tested the built-in solar…

Great item, serves its purpose

Nice little radio. It works well and sounds better than you would expect given its size. The handle charges a depleted battery to keep the radio running for several minutes, with just a few minutes start-up time. The solar charger works, but isn't nearly as fast as a crank and needs a lot of direct sunlight from outside. No sign of a hot car left in the lot. It is too much. The radio will only work with the supplied rechargeable battery, not pre-installed AA or AAA alkaline batteries or any…

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far so good

This is the first Sangean radio I've bought but it won't be the last. With the exception of one relic from the "Boombox" era, every radio I own is AC powered, so I thought it would be nice to have something basic to rely on during a power outage. Then I realized it would also be nice to have it with me on camping trips, camping trips, or even in the car on long trips. After all, this is an EMERGENCY RADIO!
