🔮 Schylling CTK Classic Tin Kaleidoscope: Timeless Wonder Transformed Review

I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my 2 year old. He's watched it once or twice so far. I think he's a bit young for that. Personally, I can sit and play with it for a full 10 minutes without getting bored. It has really great shapes and colors! I find all the different combinations that you can create with it exciting. Item arrived in good condition and I was so excited. I had amazing kaleidoscopes as a kid so I was hopeful. But in the end I was a bit disappointed. It was just ok, nothing special. Judging by the good reviews, I expected more. I think mine was short on beads. There was so much dead space watching that I felt very overwhelmed. I might try opening it up and adding more beads or replacing them or something. I would recommend it for a small child without a doubt. Just don't get your hopes up too…

I bought this for my birthday and was so disappointed with it for two reasons. First it came in a box with other items and was broken (one of the interior mirrors is loose on the inside and wobbles. If you flip the mirror back up and hold it like that you can get a kaleidoscope effect for a moment). Second, the pearls inside are minors. I know, I know, it's a kid's toy, but they're very cheap, and rather than a kaleidoscope of colors, you get more of the teleidoscopic look of plastic beads. So…

I love this kaleidoscope. It's as bright as the picture, but it doesn't look gaudy at all - the feeling of its weight in your hands sort of fixes it. The beads inside are plastic, nicely shaped but nothing fancy (or fragile). The mirrors have a few minor imperfections, but I didn't notice them until I looked very closely for this review. Would have gotten four stars but the two I bought were carelessly packed and damaged each other in transit. One was badly dented (picture below) and the other one looks fine but the glue between the spinning cylinder and the bead case has broken. I think I can fix the latter but the other is the loss as the dented part bends when pressed and forms sharp edges unsuitable for a 3 year old.
